Have you ever wondered what it's like to be an OMP Senior Supply Chain Consultant? In this story, you'll get a look inside the role and what it entails.
I started my career at OMP as a junior consultant and, recently, grew into the role of senior consultant. For me, the main difference in becoming a Senior Supply Chain Consultant is the increased responsibility and ownership I now have compared to my junior years. I can now guide a team of consultants, share my expertise, and take ownership of more complex tasks and projects. This role not only challenges me to grow professionally but also allows me to contribute more significantly to our customers' success.
I’m empowered to take on a leadership role, which is very rewarding for me. I enjoy being a team player more than ever. In fact, the team is everything to me. Unlike other consultancy companies, at OMP we work in project teams based in-house, ensuring we never lose touch with our company, our colleagues, or our identity, even when we’re working on customer projects. We always work as a collaborative team to create value for the customer.
In my role, adding value means finding the right solution for a customer’s supply chain planning challenges and organizing carefully to adapt and finetune our standard solution to the customer’s needs. If you’re familiar with larger digital transformation projects, you’ll know they happen in a phased way, involving processes such as functional and technical analysis, data gathering and preparation, implementation, testing, reviewing, user training, support, and so forth.
A unique aspect of our company is that nothing is left to chance. We have standard ways of working that allow us to move forward steadily with confidence. For our implementation projects, we use different tools to structure our work and communicate internally with colleagues as well as externally with customer project managers, business specialists, and key users. In the analysis phase, many workshops are organized with the customer, along with my team and our solution architect, to get the full picture of the challenges they must cope with.
We design our solution in detail, and create all the user stories, as part of our high-level sprint planning. During implementation, we organize regular scrum meetings with the customer and, working in an agile way, we carefully finetune the planning. After implementation, we enter an extensive testing phase, where we primarily focus on fixing bugs as well as optimizing and improving the existing solution.
How long a project takes depends on the industry we're working in, and it can be up to two years before projects go live. This might sound like a long time but, because of the different project phases and working methods, no two days are the same. There’s no shortage of variety here. I particularly enjoy longer projects because they give me the opportunity to delve deeper into the challenges our customers face and provide suitable solutions. This makes the work incredibly fascinating and interesting, as we work with the team towards the most optimal solution for our customer.
I'm grateful to be part of a company that puts collaborative spirit at the forefront. It’s the reason I chose OMP in the first place. We support and celebrate each other’s personal and professional successes in a positive and encouraging way. One of the benefits of a company growing steadily, but in a controlled manner, is that there are plenty of opportunities for everyone.
In this growing company, we’re always looking for improvements and getting new ideas to enhance our tool and way of working. We’re on the lookout for senior consultants who can bring fresh perspectives directly to the table. Colleagues who join us as seniors, with their expertise and experience, are a valuable asset to our team. Everyone who aligns with our work and company culture will grow and thrive here in their own way with the continuous support of colleagues and team managers.
